While working in Kirloskar, I was actively involved in one of their CSR activity targeted at school children to improve their personal hygiene, sanitation, and drinking water. The initiative was called as Kirloskar WaSH initiative. I thought of sharing this with all of you because it was such a beautiful program and it had a great impact on school children with regard to changing in their behaviour towards hygiene, sanitation & drinking water.
There used to be a total six activities in it and scheduled one activity in a month. Volunteers from the company used to conduct the activities. Activities & supporting materials were designed by a central comittee and shared across the kirloskar group to maintain same standards. The activity presentation mode and supporting material were changed every year to prevent monotonicity. Activities were conducted for 3rd-7th standard school children.
Activities are:
1. School staff meeting
2. No spitting
3. Drinking water
4. Hand wash
5. Waste segegation & disposal
6. Adolescent hygiene - for 6th & 7th std.
7. Cleanliness - in & arounf the school
8. Parents meet
After each activity, posters related to the topic were distributed to all the children to display in their homes.
Overall it was a great initiative and had a huge impact in cultivating healthy habits among school children.
